FAQ

Welcome to the Heroic Format FAQ. Here you'll find official clarifications, errata, and rulings for how cards and mechanics function within the Heroic multiplayer format.

General Rules

Q: Does the first player draw a card on the first turn?

A: Yes. In multiplayer Lorcana formats, including Heroic, the first player draws a card on their first turn. This differs from 1v1 play, where the first player does not draw.

Q: How do Storyboard zone changes work?

A: Whenever a Storyboard card would change zones (for example, your Main Character is banished in a challenge), you choose one of the following:

  • - Place it into your discard pile, or
  • - Return it to your Storyboard instead, and increase your Ink Tax by 1.

This choice is made each time the card would change zones.

Q: How does Singer interact with Signature Song eligibility for the Storyboard?

A: A Signature Song is eligible for your Storyboard as long as your Main Character can sing it. This includes bonuses from Singer.

For example, Cinderella – Melody Weaver can sing songs up to cost 9, so a cost‑9 Signature Song is eligible for your Storyboard.

Q: How does Ink Tax work with Sing Together songs in the Storyboard?

A: Just like Signature Songs, Sing Together songs in your Storyboard can be sung by any eligible character. The only requirement is that the total singing power (Base Cost + Ink Tax) is covered. If the Ink Tax increases, the total cost you must cover increases as well.

Q: Are Illumineer's Quest enemy cards legal in Heroic decks?

A: No. These cards do not have an ink identity, and we have chosen to make them ineligible for Heroic. Many of them are extremely powerful, and without an ink identity restriction they would appear in nearly every deck with no downside.
